Meet our new Medical Director of the Nashville CARES Clinic. Dr. Kassem Bourgi has over a decade of clinical experience as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases Specialist. With an MD from the American University of Beirut and extensive training in Infectious Diseases from Vanderbilt University, he has honed a patient-centric approach to healthcare, clinical research, and medical education serving diverse populations, and is deeply committed to advancing HIV treatment and public health.

At Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Bourgi lead innovative HIV research focused on understanding the metabolic and cardiovascular complications of HIV and the long-term use of Antiretroviral Therapy. His expertise encompasses spearheading local, regional, and national HIV educational initiatives and providing training and medical education for students, residents, and fellows. He has been invited to speak and share his research findings at several national and international HIV conferences.

“I'm thrilled to return to Nashville and join Nashville CARES as the new Medical Director,” says Dr. Kassem Bourgi. “I eagerly anticipate serving the community and advancing the organization's clinical and research missions. I am dedicated to delivering the highest quality physical, mental, and sexual health services to our patients, and with the Nashville CARES team, we will keep building a healthier future for everyone.”

Passionate about the intersection of medical research and clinical application, Dr. Bourgi has directed multiple funded HIV research projects, including serving as a Primary Investigator for several industry-funded clinical trials. His work in clinical care, HIV research, and medical education is guided by a strong commitment to combating HIV through comprehensive, evidence-based, patient-centric strategies. Dr. Bourgi will begin his service as Nashville CARES new Medical Director in August 2024.
