NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The votes are in and Nashville CARES’ Under The Big Top: Avant-Garde Redux takes the runner-up spot for “Best Revamped Party of 2012.”

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!  Nashville CARES transformed Marathon Music Works into a three-ring circus for Under The Big Top, one of the most exciting party makeovers in recent history.  The 1800s circus-theme event was equipped with fire breathers, stilt walkers, acrobats and “live” circus animals in over-the-top makeup and wardrobe twists in Avant-Garde style.

“We were able to give people something that you don’t see every day and that’s what put the event over the top,” said Chris McCune, Director of Special Events at Nashville CARES.  “Being able to create visual interactive elements with a twist and to entertain guests was our main goal.”

The event was also recognized for “Best Hors D’oeuvres” thanks to The Chef and I, who pulled out all the stops for Avant Garde’s Under the Big Top, creating a fun and fancy assortment of elevated carnival flare, including gourmet hot dogs, watermelon cotton candy, mini popcorn balls and sugary donut bites.

That’s not all.  Under The Big Top was recognized as “Most Unusual Sight” for its painted models in cages and quirky, unexpected and just downright unusual sightings.

Event Honoree, Anne Carr, received the J. Thomas Powell Award and Nashville Pharmacy Services and Vanderbilt University both received Corporate Partner Awards. Proceeds from Under The Big Top benefited Nashville CARES and the fight against HIV/AIDS in Middle Tennessee.
