Sunday, May 19, 2013
Nashville CARES and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will host “The Lion Sings Tonight: Broadway Meets Music City” to celebrate the music of Broadway and Country. Cast members from Disney’s THE LION KING will join the stage with many well-known artists for a one-night only performance on Monday, Monday May 20, 2013 at 7:00 pm at PLAY Dance Bar.
Emmy Award Nominated-actress, Bobbie Eakes’, most notable roles have included Macy Alexander on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Krystal Carey on “All My Children.” She has also enjoyed a successful singing and movie career.
“The Lion Sings Tonight” will also feature Broadway Star, Alton Fitzgerald White, from “Ragtime,” “The Lion King” and “The Color Purple.”
Gold and Grammy recording artist, Lari White, is a hit songwriter and producer, independent record label owner and versatile actress that has earned the title of Nashville’s “Renaissance Woman.”
Marcus Hummon has been called Nashville’s Renaissance Man. His songs have been recorded in many genres, including Pop, R&B and gospel, and most notably in country music. Six of his songs have charted #1 on ‘Billboard’, ‘Radio and Records’ or ‘Cashbox’. In 2005, “Bless the Broken Road” won the Grammy for Best Country Song.
Also performing will be Joshua Payne, a new breed of singer and songwriter. “Your Love, My Home,” his debut CD on the Verve Forecast label, introduces not only an accomplished singer with experience in every musical genre from opera to rock, but also a lyricist and composer of uncommon sensitivity and power, whose work is informed by the depth of his life experience.
Singer Cindy Moore was trained by the real “Minnie,” Sarah Cannon, and also performed shows with her. Cindy continues to work in the Opryland area and at conventions across the country. She has appeared on several Grand Ole Opry spots and opening shows for Sinbad & Bill Cosby as Minnie.
Jesse Lee Jones is the leader of Robert’s Western World’s house band, Brazilbilly. Jesse Lee’s mission as a singer is to keep traditional country music alive. He describes his style as “traditional country music with a Latin flair.”
